A plan to save our health & social care - Liberal Democrats release manifesto

Today, we as the Liberal Democrats have released our manifesto with a central focus on a plan to save our health and social care. Properly costed, we pledge a £9 billion plan to help our NHS and social care from the crisis that it is in thanks to this Conservative government.

Building up to the UK General Election on the 4th of July, the Liberal Democrats have released their manifesto in which they outline our plans and policies to bring a fair deal to the people of our country.

A key focus in the manifesto is our bold and fully costed £9 billion plan to tackle the health and social care crisis.

The Conservatives have failed in their responsibility to support our health and social care, leaving people without the vital services so many need. Waiting lists have never been higher, A&E waiting times have never been higher. It has never been harder for us here in Maidstone & Malling to get a doctors appointment, many people tell me how hard their families are finding it to provide the essential care to loved ones.

Our plan will help our country prosper again by having the best health services possible, allowing communities to feel confident they have the fair accessibility to health and social care services.

Our plan

Our plan to save the NHS and social care will involve policies such as:

-Significant drive in training and recruitment, including introducing 8,000 GP’s to bring the crucial primary care needed to help the strain on services such as A&E. This includes giving everyone the right to see their GP within 7 days, or 24 hours if urgent.

-Boost cancer survival rates and introduce a guarantee for 100% of patients to start treatment for cancer within 62 days from urgent referral.

-Guarantee access to an NHS dentist for everyone needing urgent and emergency care, ending DIY dentistry and ‘dental deserts’.

-Provide the urgent attention to the mental health epidemic our country is in. We will bring the vital resources to help the crisis, which includes accessibility to mental health services, mental health hubs for young people, and a mental health practitioner in every school.

How will we fund the £9 billion

Instead of unfairly raising taxes on hardworking people, we will pay for it fairly by:

- Reverse the Conservatives policy of banker’s tax cuts.

-Close Capital Gains tax loopholes which are used by the super-wealthy.

-Tax big-tech companies that have been part of the mental health crisis in young people.

-A proper windfall tax on companies who have recorded record profits during the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis.

A Fair Deal for our community

We have a broken two party system; the Liberal Democrats offer a real alternative to the chaos and centralisation of Westminster.
That is why we are calling for electoral reform to bring in proportional representation, so voters can receive fair representation. We are also calling for fair taxation so people pay their fair way in supporting our economy. By giving fair access to all health and care services, we can get people back into work and help boost our economy.  We will fight for community policing, ensuring local police services have the readily available services to keep our communities safe. The sewerage scandal and blatant vandalism of our waterways must stop. We will fight to ensure our environment is protected, and those responsible for this vandalism are held accountable.

The people of Maidstone & Malling deserve fair representation that will serve on the local priorities that actually affect people’s everyday lives. In doing so, people can feel real change and we can genuinely make our area a better place to live.

The Liberal Democrats are the real alternative to the broken politics we have endured for too long. Maidstone & Malling needs attention away from the centralisation of Westminster, which the two major parties cannot offer.

We need to put the focus back onto the priorities that affect the everyday life of our communities. We have a bold plan, and are putting our country's health and social care at the centre of our focus.

As a local man who has been a public representative for over 20 years in our area, I guarantee to be a local champion that will fight to serve the priorities of Maidstone & Malling.
