Protect Bunyards Farm: We need your support.

Liberal Democrat Councillors at Bunyards Farm

Situated in Allington, Bunyards Farm has become a significant part of the fight to protect some of the important greenery and environment we have within our constituency Maidstone & Malling.

As our area has seen, housing developments have been increasing at an alarming rate, and Bunyards Farm has become a part of the proposed developments that are coming at the expense of our green areas. There are currently plans for over 400 new houses to be developed on the land.

Whilst more housing is needed to tackle the housing crisis, this should be at the discretion and approval of residents. It should also not come at the expense of their quality of living, and developments should be made with the vision of enhancing residents’ living quality, not detracting from it. That is why this year there has been a hugely important fight to bring Bunyards Farm into a village green status.

Powering the campaign has been the pressure group MERlin (Medway Ecological Riverine Link), with Lib Dem Kent County Councillor Chris Passmore at the forefront of the fight. With fellow campaigner Duncan Edwards, Chris submitted 800 pages of evidence to KCC in what has been a long process, but a worthwhile one. There will now be a public inquiry on the matter next month at the KCC.

As a result, the campaign must be able to garner the support necessary to win this battle. To do so, the campaign must have the best legal advice to provide the best chance of succeeding. In the fight to protect our environment, the residents’ quality of living and to enhance our green and open spaces, a crowdfunding page has been set up. There has been a strong reaction from the community, with local media and representatives taking strong notice too. A superb amount of money has been raised thus far and thank you to all those who have supported the campaign to this point.

The Liberal Democrats have been the party on the frontline of the battle to protect our environment, and make sure residents’ concerns and priorities are put FIRST.
